North Fork - Family Activities

Playgrounds

We are fortunate to have a number of excellent playgrounds for the kids here on the North Fork.
Here are a few:

Located in Mattituck, this has a separate area for the little ones. Picnic tables are available if you bring lunch. This park also has a nice bay beach. Parking permit required in summer.

Tasker Park
Located in Peconic, this playground is amidst the ballfields, so there is plenty of grass for the kids to run around on.

Located in Southold, this playground has some things for the slightly older kids.
Don’t go during school hours.

Founder’s Landing
Located on the bay in Southold, this playground is literally on the beach with picnic tables in the shade and a beautiful view. Parking permit required in summer.

Orient Beach State Park
Located at the east end of the North Fork, this is the last playground before Europe.
A spectacular spot with a nice long walk to the point. Admission fee may be required.

North Fork - Lifestyle

When one crosses on to the peninsula called the North Fork, there is an immediate sense of having moved back in time, to a period when Long Island was rural and bucolic, not suburban and frenetic.
If you think you might enjoy a laidback lifestyle among friendly people living in charming hamlets, read on
Food and Wine

Proof for the adage that “Good food follows good wine” is found in the growing number of acclaimed restaurants. But if you want to relax at home and enjoy your house, you’ll find plenty of fine foods to cook, including incredible local ingredients – seafood, duck, fruits, vegetables and cheeses.
Recreation

The North Fork Country Club and Laurel Links are the private clubs in the area, but there are several courses open to the public, offering courses for the avid golfer or one just out for a fun day.
